Arsenal takeover: Spotify founder Daniel Ek ready to table offer

Daniel Ek ready to table Arsenal offer

The relationship between Arsenal’s fans and its ownership has been unhealthy for a long time.

Demonstrations have been held on numerous occasions and the most sizeable to date occurred last Friday.

In the wake of the Super League Fiasco, thousands of Arsenal fans congregated outside the Arsenal stadium to protest against Stan Kroenke’s running of the club.

LONDON, ENGLAND – APRIL 23: Arsenal fans chant and hold placards during a protest against the club’s owner Stan Kroenke ahead of the Premier League match between Arsenal and Everton, outside Emirates Stadium on April 23, 2021 in London, England. The protest, which takes place amid growing discontent over the running Arsenal FC, was sparked by the club’s recent involvement in the European Super League. There was uproar from football fans across the country earlier this week when six major Premier League football clubs, including Arsenal, announced that they were to join the controversial “closed-shop” tournament. Each club has subsequently withdrawn from the competition. (Photo by Leon Neal/Getty Images)

This sparked a reaction online from Spotify founder Daniel Ek who said he would be willing to throw his ‘hat in the ring’ should Kroenke Sports Entertainment decide to sell.

With this seemingly being too good to be true for Arsenal fans, there were many that were sceptical of the Billionaire’s intentions. With the possibility of it being simply a publicity stunt a simple explanation.

However according to The Telegraph, Ek is indeed ready to make an offer for the Gunners.

No details as to the scale of the bid or a timeframe but it appears the interest is real and a genuine takeover could be in the offing.

No intention of selling

A Fan Forum was held before the protest on Friday in the wake of the Super League chaos in which club CEO Vinai Venkatesham & Josh Kroenke were in attendance.

Arsenal released the minutes from the Fan Forum in which it was revealed Josh Kroenke answered a question relating to a possible sale.

When initially asked about it his response according to the document reads:

‘Josh said they have supported the club over the last several years and the question is part of the issues facing the game. He said you can’t always be looking for the next person to pump tens of hundreds of millions into a club – that is not sustainable anywhere.

‘He said we are not afraid to be aggressive which may have been noticed over the last few transfer windows. He said funding was part of the discussion being had with the 6 Premier League clubs and in Europe. It’s not sustainable and recruiting the next wealthy person was not right for football.’

When pushed on whether there was intention to sell he simply said he has, “No intention of selling.”

If Daniel Ek is adamant in his interest, he will surely need to come up with a sizeable offer to convince KSE to change their minds about the project.
