Ousmane Dembele could be available for less than £50m in the summer after contract talks stalled between him and Barcelona, according to reports.

Dembele’s current deal is set to expire at the end of next season and it is not certain that he will pen fresh terms before then.

According to Sport, the forward’s representatives have not yet responded to a contract offer Barcelona made two weeks ago. If an agreement cannot be found, the Blaugrana would likely be keen to move him on in the summer to avoid losing him for free next year.

Since arriving at Camp Nou in 2017, Dembele has endured an injury hit time, missing close to 90 games with various fitness problems. As well as struggling to stay fit, the Frenchman has also suffered disciplinary issues.

When he has played, his performances have been mixed. He showed promise in the 2018/19 season, registering 11 goals and five assists. After missing the majority of last campaign, he has struggled for consistency this time out, scoring five La Liga goals in 25 appearances.

With his contract winding down, it is understood that Dembele could be signed for between £44m and £53m. This would represent a significant loss for Barcelona, who parted with well over £100m to sign him from Borussia Dortmund.

Manchester United, Liverpool and Juventus – who have apparently started negotiations over a free transfer next summer – have all been mentioned as possible destinations.

Dembele is unlikely to be the only player to depart Barcelona this summer. Lionel Messi’s contract expires at the end of the season, with Manchester City coming close to signing him last summer. With the club in an incredible amount of debt, other senior players could be in danger of being shown the exit door as well.
