Inter and manager Antonio Conte have parted company, just days after lifting their first Serie A title in over a decade.

Conte broke former club Juventus’ stronghold on Italian football, winning their first Scudetto since 2010 under his guidance.

But the two parties have agreed to part ways immediately, with Conte receiving €7m in severance pay, according to widespread reports.

Inter’s financial situation is looking bleak, and it’s reported that they would have to sell nearly €100m worth of players in order to simply stay afloat – something Conte cannot get on board with.

Inter released a statement which read: “FC Internazionale Milano announces that it has reached an agreement for the consensual termination of the contract with the coach Antonio Conte.

“The whole Club would like to thank Antonio for the extraordinary work he has done, which culminated in winning the nineteenth Scudetto. Antonio Conte will remain forever in the history of our Club.”

Conte, who came close to leaving Inter last summer as he believed the club wouldn’t be able to match his ambition, is leaving this time around after meetings with chairman Steven Zhang.

He departs San Siro after just two seasons at the club. He led the club to the Europa League final at the end of last season, but lost 3-2 to Sevilla.

After running Juventus close for the title last season, they beat them to the post this time around, running away with the Scudetto in the second half of the season and comfortably topping the table by 12 points from city rivals Milan.

Conte also became the first coach in Serie A history to break the 90-point barrier with two different teams, having achieved the feat during his time at Juve. He will no doubt become the hottest free agent manager on the market immediately.

Inter have already begun considering replacements for Conte. Gianluca Di Marzio of Sky Sport Italia reports that Massimiliano Allegri – who is in talks with Juventus over a possible return should they decide to sack Andrea Pirlo – and Lazio boss Simone Inzaghi are being considered by the Nerazzurri board.
