Man Utd women sign Norway international Vilde Boe Risa

Manchester United women have made Norway midfielder Vilde Boe Risa their first signing of the summer following her departure from Sandviken in her homeland.

Boe Risa, who has played 37 times for Norway and was part of the country’s squad at the 2019 World Cup, has joined United on a two-year contract with the option of an additional 12 months.

“I’m happy to be here, at such a big club that I have grown up supporting,” she told ManUtd.com.

“Manchester United is huge in Norway so to be able to come here and play for the team now is a dream come true.

“I am really looking forward to playing in the WSL and I want to help the team as much as I can in qualifying for the Champions League. I’m also excited to get to know my new team-mates and, of course, I hope I can see the fans in the stadium soon too.”

United are yet to name a new manager following the resignation of Casey Stoney at the end of last season, although the recruitment is now believed to be in the final stages and a contract with the new boss to be signed off sooner rather than later.

The squad has been without a manager for more than two months, which has been a great source of frustration for fans and players alike, with the squad believed to have recently approached the PFA for advice over concerns about the direction of the club.

United finished fourth in the WSL last season, narrowly missing out on Champions League qualification by a single point behind Arsenal. But competition at the top end of the table has increased since then and recruitment is the way to bridge that gap.

United have also lost several key players in Amy Turner, Tobin Heath and Christen Press, while Lauren James is in the process of leaving for Chelsea.
