Olajide also debunked Igboho’s claim that Yoruba monarchs and elders were behind him. The YCE secretary-general said there was no platform where the traditional rulers met with Igboho.

An influential Yoruba group, YCE, has disowned Sunday Igboho over his call for secession, The group’s secretary-general, Kunle Olajide, said Igboho does not speak on behalf of the Yoruba people

Olajide said Yoruba people have invested so much in Nigeria’s formation and unity, noting that secession is not a right move.

He said the Yoruba people are angry over the “ethnocentric nature” of the Muhammadu Buhari administration.

However, Olajide noted that the ethnic group remains part of the country. Olajide urged Igboho and those who believe in his secessionist call to exercise patience.

The Guardian also reported that the YCE scribe cautioned Igboho to operate within the law in his agitation for an independent Yoruba nation.
